2027: Abia PDP to Run Grassroots-based Campaigns — ANOSIKE … *Enyioha Flags Off Reps Bid, Umuahia South Campaign Council Inaugurated

The Abia PDP Governorship Candidate, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has declared that the party’s campaigns for the 2027 elections will be driven from the grassroots to ensure victory at the polls, charging all local governments to come up with ward-by-ward mobilization strategies.

Dr. Anosike spoke at Umuopara Umuahia during the flag-off of the campaign of the PDP House of Representatives Candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Engr. Dr. Humphrey Chukwudi Benson (popularly known as Enyioha), and the inauguration of the PDP Campaign Council for Umuahia South LGA.

Commending Umuahia South for being the first to set up its LGA Campaign Council, Anosike said: “The campaign is grassroots driven; so it is important that we go back to the wards and the polling units. Every ward must have a plan. The message must be consistent. We are selling a government that cares.”

He explained that the PDP proposition for 2027 is “we will build stomachs and build roads,” stressing a welfarist agenda focused on the people. “When we say that no Abian will go to bed with an empty stomach, we mean there will be food everywhere. So the people first, and Abia always,” he said.

Dr. Anosike made key promises if elected. He pledged that within 100 days, a PDP government will clear all gratuity arrears and allowances, pay a N90,000 minimum wage, and recall about 10,000 workers allegedly sacked from state ministries and local governments.

“If the law says you will retire after 60 years or after 35 years of service, if you don’t reach that milestone, we will not retire you,” he stated, describing the sackings as “wickedness.”

He also told PDP members to counter accusations that the party ruined Abia for 24 years. “Tell them that those people have left PDP and are now in APC, Labour, ADC and NDC. This is a brand new PDP, new team, new mindset, new direction,” Anosike said.

He directed that every LGA Campaign Council must be accountable with measurable targets and regular reports on mobilization, stakeholder engagement, and ward activities. “All the materials and resources that the Campaign Council will require will be made available to them at the right time and it will come direct to the LGA and the wards,” he assured.

The PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate and State Party Chairman, Elder Amah Abraham, inaugurated the Umuahia South LGA Campaign Council and charged members to work hard to deliver victory at the polls.

In his remarks, the House of Reps candidate, Engr. Dr. Humphrey Benson, dedicated his campaign to God and prayed for PDP’s resurgence in Abia in 2027. He thanked FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, for keeping the party together.

Benson also canvassed for equity and rotation in the federal constituency, arguing that while Ikwuano and Umuahia North have done 12 years each, Umuahia South has done only eight years. “It is our time to complete our own 12 years. Umuahia South should not allow their opportunity to slip by and that is why I am contesting,” he said adding:
“I present myself to serve. I have been tested and I have been trusted. I am a career businessman, not a chartered politician. Don’t vote those who spend billions and would want to recoup their investment, if elected, before they will begin to serve the masses.”

He described Dr. Anosike as “a replica of (late) Dr. Michael Okpara” and said Abia needs a youthful leader with strength and energy.
According to him, giving Anosike and opportunity to serve Abia would be like giving the late Premier of Eastern Nigeria a second opportunity to serve, saying “you know what Dr Okpara achieved while in office.”

Responding on behalf of the new council, the Director-General, Ikechi Ezenwa Nnanta, assured that the team would work hard to deliver on its mandate.

The event, held at Dr. Benson’s country home in Umuopara, had party stakeholders and supporters in attendance, including Chief Tony Ezebuiro, a member of PDP Board of Trustees.
