UMUAHIA NORTH MAYOR THREATENS LEGAL ACTION AGAINST NUJ CHAIR

Following the widely publicized altercation between the Mayor of Umuahia North Local Government Area, Mr Smart Ihuoma and journalists at the weekend, it seems solution to the problem is no where in sight as the Mayor has unleased his anger on the Chairman of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abia State Council, Mr Chidi Asonye.

Dream News reports that the legal team of the embattled Mayor, Smart Ihuoma has demanded an apology from the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abia State Council within 48 hours or face legal action.

A letter dated 31st May, 2025 by Somadila Uzodimma & Co. of Uhuru Chambers, representative of Mr Smart, accused Mr Asonye of posting defamatory publication on his Facebook page which according to them has made their client to suffer untold hardship and embarrassment.

It demanded that the Abia State NUJ chairman publish a retraction of the publication, announce it on any radio station based in Abia and as well write an apology to their client.

Smart Ihuoma through his legal representative said failure of Chidi Asonye to meet their demand would lead him (Smart) to seek remedial options including seeking damages of character and cost of prosecution.
