Abia Police Partners Local Government Mayors For Grassroot Policing

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa has challenged the 17 local government area Mayors to provide timely and credible information to the police and other security agencies to avoid shielding criminal suspects in their various localities.

CP Danladi Isa gave the charge in Umuahia on Tuesday at an expanded meeting with all the Mayors in the 17 local council areas of the state.

The meeting which was in collaboration with the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu, was aimed at strengthening grassroots security coordination.

While CP Danladi Isa appreciated the Mayors for attending the meeting, he reminded the mayors, who are the Chief Security Officers of their localities, of the importance of close collaboration with the Police through their respective Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders.

He urged the Mayors to work closely with youth leaders and landlords to ensure proper screening of prospective tenants before renting out properties.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and justice, stressing that acts of misconduct and unprofessionalism by officers will not be tolerated. CP Isa encouraged the mayors to trust and have confidence in the Police in order to work together to make Abia State a safe haven for all.

The police boss who acknowledged the support the Command has received from His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti in fighting crime and criminality in the state, reaffirmed the Command’s support for the mayors in their respective domains but emphasized that security is a collective responsibility.

A statement by the police public relations officer of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka said the CP was accompanied to the meeting by his management team.
