Abia First Lady Advocates Skills Acquisition For Financial Independence

The Wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has urged women and youths across the state to embrace skill acquisition as a pathway to financial independence and sustainable livelihood.

Mrs. Otti gave the charge during the MTN MoMo Agents Training and Support Programme held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Umuahia. The event, organized by MTN in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Governor, featured the empowerment of fifty Abia women and youths with business tools and training.

Represented by the Managing Director of Abia Signage and Advertisement Agency, Mrs. Victoria Onwubiko, the Governor’s wife reaffirmed her commitment to prioritizing the empowerment of women and youths in the state. She expressed readiness to partner with stakeholders, NGOs, and well-meaning individuals with innovative ideas aimed at creating sustainable opportunities for Abians.

She also commended Governor Alex Otti’s administration for its continuous investment in skill acquisition, agriculture, and other empowerment programmes designed to improve the socio-economic well-being of citizens.

Mrs. Otti lauded MTN Nigeria for extending its corporate social responsibility to the grassroots in Abia, describing the gesture as a practical contribution to poverty reduction and community development. She encouraged the beneficiaries to apply the knowledge and resources gained to improve their livelihoods and serve as agents of positive change in their communities.

Speaking at the event, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Chinenye Nwaka, applauded the Governor’s wife for her numerous charitable initiatives and consistent efforts in promoting women’s empowerment. She also commended MTN for partnering with the state government in the collective drive to break the cycle of poverty.

In his remarks, the MTN Sales and Trade Development Manager for Abia Area, Mr. Mac Daniel Enwemuche, appreciated the Governor’s wife for her visionary leadership in championing women empowerment across the state. He noted that MTN’s participation in the programme was to further support the Abia State Government’s initiatives on women empowerment, adding that the day’s event was an offshoot of the recently concluded Abia Women Delegates Conference (AwaDec) organized by the Wife of the Governor, during which several women were empowered.

Mr. Enwemuche reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to partnering with the state government to promote economic inclusion, create business opportunities, and enhance connectivity at the grassroots level.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Nkechi Okoro, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Otti and MTN Nigeria for their benevolence and for creating opportunities that will improve their means of livelihood.

The event featured the distribution of MTN-branded commercial umbrellas and chairs to the beneficiaries and was graced by several dignitaries, including the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Professor Ijeoma Iheukwumere, among others.
