Extra Judicial Killing In Bende, Iheanyi Chinasa Calls For Calm

Following the crisis that rocked the Bende Division of the Nigerian Police, Abia State command, the Abia State Liaison Officer at the National Assembly, Chief Iheanyi Chinasa has called for calm to allow the police to conduct thorough investigation on the matter.

Chief Chinasa made the call on Saturday, October 25, 2025 in a telephone chat with Dreamnews reporter.

“I heard of the incident and I condemn in it’s totality any atom of misconduct or unprofessional behaviour of the police. But then, we have to urge the family, friends and everybody involved to stay calm to enable the police to investigate it properly.”

“I also console the family for their loss. It is not easy to loose a loved one and especially in such circumstances. It hurts so bad.”

“I am sure the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Danladi Isa will do a good job and bring the perpetrators to book.”

The incident, an alleged extra judicial killing of a middle aged man, Akobundu Wisdom Okorie by the police caused protests by Bende indegenes.

In his remark, Chief Chief Chinasa condemned any form of unprofessional conduct by the police but called on all the parties involved to sheath their swords while the police did their job.

Dreamnews learnt that Akobundu was accused of buying stolen property from scavengers, commonly known as Ndi Akpakara and was invited by the police for questioning.

Sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity said during interrogation, the police beat the deceased until he lost consciousness.

According to the source, while the police took him to the hospital, he died on the way.

Dreamnews contacted the Public Relations Officer of the Police, Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka who confirmed the development and assured that the Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa had visited Bende and addressed the matter.

According to her, calm has returned as the matter is being investigated.
