“Politics Is Not About Noise, It’s About Results. Days of Politics Without Conscience Are Over” — Governor Otti

The Abia State Government has called on the Labour Party members in the state to stand united as one family ahead of the 2026/2027 political season, stressing the importance of party connection to the grassroot.

The Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti made the call on Tuesday during a familiarization tour of the party in Bende Local Government Area, aimed at strengthening the party structures in the 17 local government areas of the state

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Engnr. ikechukwu Emetu, Governor Otti charged the party faithful to remain united and avoid division in the face of the tensed political atmosphere in the state.

“As we prepare for the coming political season, let me appeal to all of us: let us remain united. Let us avoid division and stand as one family. Our strength is in our unity, our discipline, and our connection with the grassroots”

Governor Otti emphasized that the days of politics without conscience are over, noting that the electorate is more alert and wiser.

“Let me say this clearly and confidently: the days of politics without conscience are over in Abia State. The people are wiser. The electorate is more alert. And that is why the Labour Party continues to grow stronger by the day”.

“My brothers and sisters, politics is not about noise; it is about results. That is why today, we can confidently tell our story. You gave us a mandate because you believed in change. Under Governor Alex Otti, that mandate is being honored. Salaries are being paid as and when due. Roads that were forgotten are receiving attention. Public funds are now treated as sacred, institutions are being cleaned up, and governance is now about service, not sharing. Governance in Abia is no longer about promises—it is about performance”.

He charged them to go back to their various communities and mobilize for the Labour Party, the party that is delivering the dividends of democracy in the state.

“Every party member here is a mobilizer. Every ward, every village, every household matters. Go back to your communities and speak with confidence. Tell them that Abia is working again. Tell them that the Labour Party is delivering. Tell them that the future belongs to the people. Tell them that this government is working for them and that together, we will protect and grow what we have started”.

His call is coming on the heels of a Federal High Court judgement delivered on the 21st of January, 2026 which acknowledged the Senator Nenadi Usman-led Caretaker Committee of the party as the legitimate national leadership of the Labour Party.

Recall that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja delivered a judgement on the long legal battle of the leadership of the party, asking the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to duly recognize Senator Nenadi Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha led national leadership of the party.

On his part, the Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, Sir Emmanuel Otti issued a stern warning to persons giving out their National Identification Numbers (NIN) and Voter Identification Numbers (VIN) in exchange for N1000 to desist from such act, saying the voters’ card details and the NIN are private documents that should not be given out to just any person.

According to Sir Otti, the collation of such sensitive documents by unauthorized persons is an illegal act, urging anyone with useful information about those involved to report to the nearest police station for proper action.

“The party wishes to use this opportunity to issue a serious warning to individuals involved in the illegal collection of voters’ card details in exchange for ₦1,000.”

We are fully aware that such persons are enemies of Abia State and are working against the democratic process. Members of the public are strongly advised to disregard and avoid such activities.

“Anyone with information about these illegal acts should immediately report to the nearest Police Station or call the Police Emergency Number.
The party will not take this act lightly, and anyone found to be involved will face the full weight of the law.”

He further used the medium to congratulate the Labour Party family on the Federal High Court judgement delivered on 21st January 2026 which affirmed the Senator Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee as the legitimate national leadership of the party.

He described the court ruling as a true reflection of the commitment to justice, due process, and purposeful leadership of Dr Alex Otti.

“This judgment is not just a legal victory; it is a true reflection of your commitment to justice, due process, and purposeful leadership. It speaks volumes about your developmental strides and the good work you continue to do for our dear state. Truly, Your Excellency, your works speak for you”.

Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Bende Local Government Area, Deacon Bassey Uwabunkonye encouraged party faithful and Abians not to panic because of the tensed political atmosphere in the state, propelled by opposition parties, assuring them of victory for the party in 2027.

He maintained that Abia has turned the corner in good governance and would not “return back to Egypt”.

Deacon Uwabunkonye announced that the Labour party in Bende, citizens and residents of Bende Local Government Area and Abians in general would line up for Governor Alex Otti, come 2027.

“Because of time, I am giving assurance that Ndi Bende and everyone here today are for His Excellency and there’s no going back. Because this is a man who has worked for Ndi Abia only less than three years, and other things that we are seeing. And I’m saying that we are not going back to Egypt”.

“Forget about those who talk too much. We are on the ground. They will always come here at the end of the day. We will decide what happens. We are here and we own this place”.

“We will match them one on one. We are not afraid of them”.

In their separate remarks, the member representing Bende North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Nnamdi Ibekwe and the Labour Party Chairman for Bende Local Government Area, Mr Irokansi Lawrence all reaffirmed their commitment and support for Governor Alex Otti, while urging the people who are yet to obtained their voters’ cards to do so without hesitation.

The event attracted party stakeholders, top government functionaries from all the seventeen local government areas of Abia State, including former Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Bar. Chijioke Nwankwo, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Cliff Agbaeze, traditional ruler, among others.
