“Nigerians will not accept any arrangement that compromises the outcome of the 2027 election” — Chief Emeka Kalu

A Labour party Chieftain, Chief Emeka Kalu has called on the leadership of the National Assembly to as a matter of urgency address and correct the lacuna created in the recent amendment of the electoral act while there is time.

In a viral video, Kalu said the National Assembly carry constitutional responsibilities of safeguarding our nation, adding that democracy is sustained, not just by elections but by credible laws, transparent processes and the trust of the people.

“I wish to call the attention of the Senate President, distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio and other members of the National Assembly who carry constitutional responsibilities of safeguarding our nation. Democracy is sustained, not just election, but by credible laws, transparent processes and the trust of the people. It is therefore imperative that the National Assembly urgently address and correct the lacuna created in the recent amendment of the electoral act while there is still time”.

Chief Kalu said Nigerians would not accept any attempt in whatever guise that may compromise the integrity of the electoral process. According to him, every law, guiding elections must be clear, fair and firmly rooted in the will of the people.

He urged the Nigerian Senate to act with courage and national interest and restore public confidence by bridging the gaps in the electoral law.

“The National Assembly has an opportunity to strengthen the public confidence by acting in the national interest. Correct the gaps, strengthen the electoral act, ensure that the Nigerian democracy reflects fairness, transparency and justice. History will remember the choices made at this moment. I urge the Senate to act with courage, wisdom and patriotism and to ensure that Nigeria’s elections are decided credibly, only by the ballot.”
