Electoral Amendment: Abia Liaison Officer Faults Senate Decision

The Abia State Chief Liaison Officer, Chief Iheanyi Chinasa has joined other well meaning Nigerians to express dissatisfaction with the rejection of the mandatory electronic transmission of election results by the Nigerian Senate.

Chief Chinasa said the move could undermine public trust in the electoral process and create opportunities for result manipulation.

His reaction follows the widespread outrage by Nigerians on the decision of the Senate to retain the existing provision allowing discretionary “transfer” of results after votes are counted and publicly announced at polling units.

Speaking to Dreamnews on Monday, the Labour Party chieftain described the defense of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio that the Senate did not reject the realtime transmission of election results as lame and feeble.

According to him, the implications of this decision of the Senate are significant, as it may lead to increased electoral disputes, violence, and decreased confidence in the electoral process.
