The Peoples Democratic Party, Abia State chapter has debunked the statement credited to the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Ini Ememobong announcing a Caretaker Committee for the Abia State chapter of the party, describing the statement as “misleading”.

According to a statement released Tuesday evening, signed by Chief Jude Udeachara, Publicity secretary Abia State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party said the set up of the caretaker committee is “frivolous”, “illegal”, and “of no effect” whatsoever.

“The attention of the Abia State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to a misleading online document being circulated by certain unscrupulous elements, wherein they purport to announce the appointment of a so-called caretaker committee for Abia State”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the said document is frivolous, illegal, and of no effect whatsoever. It was reportedly signed by an individual who claims to be a publicity secretary, a claim traceable only to a lawless and unconstitutional convention purportedly held in Ibadan late last year. That gathering was conducted in brazen defiance of subsisting orders of the Federal High Court and has since been expressly nullified and dismissed as a charade by another Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan a few weeks ago”.

“It bears restating that the courts had earlier restrained the said individual and his co-travellers in the Ibadan adventure from parading themselves as officers of the party. Any action taken by them in that false capacity, including the announcement of a caretaker committee, amounts to a grave contempt of court and a reckless affront to the rule of law”.

“The purported appointment is therefore a huge joke, a nullity, and a gross disregard for constitutional order and judicial authority. It is entirely consistent with the ignoble pattern of conduct of these disgruntled elements, whose stock-in-trade has been impunity, misinformation, and institutional sabotage”.

“We hereby call on all members of the PDP in Abia State, our supporters, and the general public to totally disregard this shameful spectacle and treat the said document with the contempt it deserves”.

“For clarity and emphasis, as at today, the Elder Abraham Amah–led Abia State Executive Committee remains the only leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State known to law and duly recognised by INEC”.

“The Abia PDP remains committed to constitutionalism, internal democracy, and strict adherence to the rule of law. No amount of propaganda or desperation can substitute for legality”.
