Okoro Hails State Government Support for Ogbonnaya Onu Poly Relocation
…. Says Alumni Fee To Be Paid Once
The Rector of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, Prof. Christopher Okoro Kalu, has acknowledged the efforts of the Abia State Government in advancing the ongoing relocation of the institution to its Osisioma campus.
Speaking during a management meeting on Tuesday, the Rector stated that individuals who visited the Osisioma campus after hearing various reports about the project expressed surprise at the level of development observed on ground.
He noted that ongoing construction works at the new campus reflects the state government’s sustained intervention toward the successful completion of the project and provide visible evidence of steady progress toward realizing the relocation plan.
Addressing students’ concerns, the Rector disclosed that the alumni fee, previously collected separately during both the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes, will henceforth be paid only once, during the ND programme.
This decision, made in response to widespread student outcry, effectively eases the financial burden and addresses long-standing grievances.
Prof. Okoro Kalu urged members of the institution’s management to remain dedicated and aligned with the institution’s objectives, stressing that the administration remains focused on sustaining progress in line with the state government’s mandate.
He also appreciated the Bursary Department for concluding processes leading to the finalization of salary promotion, adding that payments are expected within the next two days.
On academic matters, Prof. Okoro Kalu reiterated that students’ interests remain a priority of the institution.
He announced that Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) examinations will be adopted for ND I and HND I students offering General Studies (GNS) courses with large enrolment, while Computer-Based Tests (CBT) will be used for departmental courses for ND II and HND II students.
He added that only duly registered students will participate in the OMR examinations, which take effect from the current academic session across applicable departments.
