LP Affirms Otti As Abia Governorship Candidate

Governor Alex Otti has crossed the first major hurdle to his re-election as he has been renominated to fly the Labour Party flag in the 2027 Abia State  governorship election.

Otti was affirmed the Abia LP Guber candidate at the end of the party’s governorship primary held on Saturday across the 184 electoral wards of the state having polled 368, 213 votes to clinch the ticket.
The governor was the only aspirant in the primary election. Recall that he had contested and won the Abia governorship contest in 2023 on the LP platform.

The Returning Officer for Abia State LP governorship primary election, Mrs. Oluchi Opara, announced the outcome at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia Collation Centre.

The primary election witnessed large turnout of voters and was supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), election observers and security agencies.

In the Senate primaries, Enyinnaya Abaribe won the ticket for Abia South, Ogba David Onuoha clinched that of Abia North, while Darlington Nwokocha got the Senate ticket for Abia Central.
Receiving his Certificate of Return, Governor Otti expressed joy that the LP primaries in the state were peaceful and rancour-free.

On behalf of all the Abia LP candidates,.I will like to accept this nomination. I accept it because I know that we still have a lot collectively to deliver to Abia State and of co course, Nigeria,” he said.
He noted that the primaries were hitch-free because the leaders were proactive.

“All disagreements that could have happened had been dealt with even before today, that’s why we had a very smooth primary across board and I want to thank our leaders who sat down here in the last several weeks, trying to resolve problems and disagreements between aspirants that led to consensus candidates emerging in virtually every Constituency. I can’t thank you enough,” the Governor said.
He therefore challenged all LP candidates to work hard to secure victory for the party in the state during the 2027 elections.
