The main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has continued to lose members to the ruling Labour Party in the Abia State House of Assembly.

PDP lost yet another member on Wednesday after the member representing Isiala Ngwa North State constituency, Hon. Collins Ugochukwu formally joined the Labour Party.

Ugochukwu’s defection to the LP was officially made known in a letter he addressed to the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, on Wednesday at plenary.

This is coming just one week after the member representing Isuikwuato constituency, Lucky Nweke Johnson quit the PDP to join LP, citing the crises in his former party and also the performances of Governor Alex Otti as his reasons for leaving the PDP.

Recall that in February, the member representing Isiala Ngwa South constituency, Rowland Dennis quit PDP and joined the LP.

This latest defection of Collins Ugochukwu could translate to an impediment for the PDP in the 2027 calculations, as the Isiala Ngwa North he represents is one of the populous LGAs that determine the winner of Abia gubernatorial polls.
