MOUAU Begins Fees Refund to NELFUND Beneficiaries, As VC Inaugurates New SUG EXCO

The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, has ordered the refund of school fees paid by students who later benefited from the Federal Government’s Nigerian Education Loan Fund, (NELFUND).

Prof. Akanwa gave the directive on Monday during the inauguration and swearing-in of the newly elected Students’ Union Government (SUG) executives.

She said she had instructed the University Bursar to commence the refund process immediately to ensure that students who paid their fees before the disbursement of NELFUND loans were not shortchanged.

“The decision is to ensure fairness and that no student is denied the benefit of the Federal Government’s intervention,” the VC stated.

Prof. Akanwa also urged students to register their courses promptly at the start of the 2026/2027 academic session, noting that early registration would enable the university to commence academic activities without delays.

She further charged the new SUG leadership to provide responsible and people-oriented leadership, and to work closely with university management to promote peace, unity, and the welfare of students.

The inauguration ceremony marked the beginning of a new tenure for the student union, with the VC calling on the executives to be good ambassadors of the institution.
