Governor Otti To Deliver Abia Medical City In 24 Months

The Abia State government says everything is ready for the official flag off of the highly anticipated Abia Medical City on July 10, 2025. The commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this in Umuahia the state capital on Monday while briefing newsmen on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council Meeting, chaired by the governor, Dr Alex Otti.

According Kanu, the project, which is a partnership with MKP International Holdings will gulp $1.3 million and is expected to occupy 200 hectres of land.

According to him, the medical city will have among other things, a 1,000 bed hospital with a world class facilities, a five star hotel, family accommodations and is tipped to be e medical tourism hub in Nigeria and West Africa.

The Abia Medical City is the signature project that will ultimately reverse medical tourism, not just in Abia State or the Southeast, but in the whole of Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

“This flagship project when completed ,will transform the state into a major hub for advanced medical services.”

“It occupies a land space of about 200 hectares, and will feature a 1,000-bed capacity hospital, which will be equipped with state-of the-art facilities. It will also feature facilities for medical tourism, a five-star hotel complex and accommodation for both patients and their families.”

Recall that Governor Alex Otti had previously said the project’s aim and objective is to reverse medical tourism, not only in Nigeria but across West Africa.

According to Okey Kanu, the access road is nearing completion and delivery is expected within 24 months.
