Abia State Monthly Sanitation Exercise Holds This Weekend
The Abia State monthly sanitation exercise for the month of June will hold on Saturday, June 28, 2025, between the hours of 7am and 10am.
A statement by the commissioner for environment, Philimon Ogbonna prohibits people and vehicular movement during the time of the exercise, except those on essential duties who would be required to provide to present on demand, valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.
The statement further enjoined the Executive Chairmen of the Local Government Councils , Traditional rulers,Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders,Youth and Women Organizations in the State are required to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate as well.
The Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps are to assemble at their usual place of take-off for deployment.
According to the release, all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises are to remain closed on Friday June 27, 2025 between the hours of 7:00am and 9:00am to carry out their own clean-up exercise.
The release further directs that people are to stay at home, clean up their areas and must work with their nose mask, adding that defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
It added that there would be tippers on Saturday to cart away the refuse scooped out as usual.
