New Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, has charged the newly inaugurated Chairmen of the Local Government chapters to work hard to deliver President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and win the state governorship election in 2027.

Inaugurating the 17 local government party chairmen elected during the just concluded local government congresses at the state party secretariat in Umuahia Wednesday, Chukwu said “this is serious business. The reason we are here is to win elections: to deliver President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to reclaim Government House, Umuahia.”

The new APC State Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, in a statement, quoted Chukwu as saying that APC was the only vibrant and healthy political party in Abia with the widest grassroots appeal, stressing, “we do not believe in social media noise, we are rooted in the grassroots and we must preserve that strength to secure victory in all forthcoming elections,”

The state party Chairman therefore charged the Local Government Chairmen to sustain the prevailing peace and unity within the party, intensify grassroots mobilization and expand party membership across their domains, warning that indolence would not be tolerated under his leadership.

He cautioned against the misuse of office or alienation of new entrants into the party, urging them to embrace inclusiveness and collective responsibility.

The former Minority Leader of Abia State House of Assembly, however, assured them of adequate support and improved welfare to enable them discharge their responsibilities effectively and empowered them to proceed with the inauguration of ward executives in their respective local government areas.

Chukwu described the current state of governance in Abia as “motion without movement,” alleging that the government of the Labour Party has failed to translate available resources into tangible development.

He maintained that beyond what he termed “sponsored propaganda and social media noise,” the administration of Governor Alex Otti has not significantly advanced the state beyond the level it met on assumption of office.

According to the APC chairman, the scale of infrastructural development being publicized by the state government is not commensurate with the volume of funds accruing to Abia from the federal government.

He argued that effective governance should reflect visibly in economic vibrancy, infrastructure, and improved livelihoods.

Chukwu further criticized what he described as the declining economic activity in the state, stating that “only a complacent government would allow its city centres to shut down by 7 p.m. and reopen by 6 a.m., thereby losing valuable man-hours and revenue that ought to flow into the state’s purse.” He stressed that a thriving economy requires deliberate policies that encourage nightlife, commerce, and investor confidence.

The Chairman of Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Hon. Onyeukwu Nwogu, in a vote of thanks on behalf of his colleagues, thanked party members for the confidence reposed in them,  pledging that the newly elected executives would work diligently to consolidate party structures and deliver electoral victory for the APC in 2027.
