Abia Government Targets Functional Tertiary Education

Abia state government says it is working hard to ensure that tertiary institutions in the state produce graduates who can meet the development needs of the state.

‎The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Professor Uche Eme-Uche, stated this during an interaction with executives of  some media organizations in Abia state.
‎
‎Professor Eme-Uche noted that the concerted efforts of the state government brought about the resuscitation and turn around of Abia State College of Education, Technical, Arochukwu which led to the institution getting accreditation for its 24 courses.
‎
‎She explained that the attention given to Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba also saw it becoming the first institution to get virtual accreditation for its thirty one courses while a lot of work is going into ensuring that it moves to it’s permanent site.

‎The Commissioner said the government had completed hostels that could accommodate ten thousand students at Abia State University while other projects were on-going to take the institution to greater heights.
‎
‎She noted that the government was also exploring exchange programmes that both students and lecturers could take advantage of acquire additional knowledge and skills.
‎
‎The tertiary education commissioner reiterated the determination of Governor Alex Otti to strengthen the public education system to enable it to serve the interest of the citizens.
