“Bus Travels In Abia Are About to Get More Interesting with the electric Buses” — Chief Emeka Kalu
A Labour party Chieftain in Abia, Chief Emeka Kalu has applauded the e-ticket initiative for the Abia Green Shuttle Transport Scheme.
The initiative was announced by the commissioner for information in Abia State, Prince Okey Kanu on Wednesday in statement.
According to the statement, the electric buses which were rolled out in December 2025, have been conveying comuters to various destinations free of charge.
According to Prince Kanu, the freebies will end by the end of February, 2026. He said the government approved to have electronic ticketing that will eliminate cash handling and conductors. The electronic ticketing system will feature contactless smart cards, prepaid and pay-as-you-go options, realtime transaction recording and a centralised revenue monitoring dashboard.
In a swift response, Chief Emeka Kalu hailed the initiative, describing it as a noble idea that meets the emerging world standard.
Chief Kalu called on Abians to continue to support Governor Otti as he moves Abia to the next level.
“I want to sincerely commend my Governor, Dr Alex Otti for introducing e-tickets and other payments options, such as the prepaid smart card and pay as you go option for the electric buses”.
“This shows that the Governor is thinking ahead of others. He is seeing the future and he’s aligning the state with global beat practices”.
“Look at the central terminal at isị gate, when you go there, you will see wonders. With this initiative, it is like booking a flight. You can stay in your house and book a ride. Just walking in there and the bus is waiting for you”.
