A civil rights group, The Abia Coalition For Justice and Equity, ACJE, condemned in strong terms the incessant attacks and accusations of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, on Governor Alex Otti.

The group in a statement on Friday, January 23, 2026 expressed deep concern on a recent comment credited to the Deputy Speaker, where he once again accused Governor Otti of misappropriating state funds, and not executing projects commensurate to the funds coming into the state.

The statement, endorsed by the Convener of the group, Comrade Okwute Otuonye and made available to newsmen, questioned the audacity of Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu to point fingers at Governor Alex Otti.

“We want to interrogate the audacity of Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu to point fingers at Governor Alex Otti. As Abia State citizens, we’re tired of this blame game. Kalu should focus on his own constituency’s development instead of spreading falsehoods”.

According to them, Hon. Benjamin Kalu should be put on the scale to ascertain his own management of constituency budgetary allocation for Bende Federal Constituency.

“Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Kalu’s own constituency projects have come under scrutiny. Constituents have raised concerns about the scale, structure, and accountability of allocations, with his constituency budget”.

Critics argue that his projects often lack significance, instead, they prioritize political interests, and suffer from poor execution and monitoring”.

The group demanded the Deputy Speaker to provide evidence of his constant allegations.

“We demand evidence to back these baseless claims. Kalu should be ashamed, playing politics with Abia’s future”.

According to them, “Governor Otti has brought unprecedented progress to Abia State, with tangible projects and initiatives that uplift our people. Meanwhile, Kalu’s track record speaks for itself – empty promises and abandoned projects in his Bende constituency”.
