IJAW YOUTHS WARN AGAINST IMPEACHMENT OF GOVERNOR FUBARA

The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has condemned plans to impeach Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and destabilise the state, pledging to safeguard its interests.

The chairman of the council’s Eastern Zone, Prince Sukubo, made this known while addressing journalists on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, stressing that there were alleged plans to remove Fubara from office.

According to Sukubo, Friday’s Supreme Court rulings had been weaponised by individuals who did not have the state’s best interests at heart.

He described the 48-hour ultimatum issued to Governor Fubara to re-present the 2025 budget as a calculated attempt to create chaos and potentially impeach the governor.

He warned that any move to impeach the governor would be an attack on their elected leadership and an affront to the will of the people, who have entrusted governance to an Ijaw man, Fubara.

The IYC zonal chairman warned that any attempt to impeach Fubara would amount to stealing the governor’s mandate, which was freely given to him by the electorate.

He emphasised that the people would defend their right to choose their elected officials and urged detractors to respect their decision.

Sukubo called on all stakeholders to work together to maintain peace and stability by prioritising dialogue and cooperation over conflict.

According to him, the ambitions of a few individuals should not be allowed to jeopardise the future of the state and its people.

He further warned that withholding federal allocations from the state would only exacerbate the hardship faced by workers and hinder development efforts.
