Reinstated Health Workers Threaten Mass Protest Over Non-payment of Salaries 12 Months After

Human Health Professionals who were previously laid off and later reinstated by Governor Alex Otti have threatened to stage a protest across major cities of that state, Umuahia Aba and Ohafia over non-payment of salaries that has stretched more than twelve months after their reinstatement.

Speaking to Dreamnews on Tuesday, the affected persons regretted that they have been subjected to various and unending verifications which are yet to yield positive results.

They called on the Accountant General of the state to as a matter of humanitarian concern, halt the series of verifications and pay them, expressing frustration over the delay.

The human health professionals equally asked the Abia State government to either pay them their salaries or start paying them their pensions if their services are not longer needed.

They threatened to stage a protest if the government continues to ignore their calls for payments, adding that some of them already lost their lives due to inability to get adequate health care.

“We are tired of processing and compilation of names for more than 12 months of no salary.The Accountant General should stop deceiving us.Pay us our salaries.If the Governor is retrieving his words,then address us and we will start receiving our pension”.

“We will no longer fold our hands, while our children are dropping out of school, some of us have died from the hardship.This is an abomination in a New Abia.They are pushing us to protest”.

“The Governor should give us an order to be paid and ensure that his order is carried out”.
