Tragedy: Thunder Strikes Destroy Abia Lawmaker’s House

Tragedy struck in Umuahia on Thursday afternoon, June 26, 2025 as thunder strikes hit the home of an Abia Lawmaker leaving a serious damage in the building.

The house, belonging to the member representing Ohafia South State Constituency, Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoke is located in the popular Ehimmiri Housing Estate Umuahia, the state capital.

According to the lawmaker who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, the house which also has a poultry house in the compound was badly damaged as it affected mostly electrical fittings, cables, appliances that were plugged into electric sockets at the time and parts of the poultry house.

Speaking to DreamNews, Hon. Etiokwe, as he is fondly called lamented that the thunder also destroyed the cable that supplied power from the electric pole to his house, touching the walls and even the floor of the affected part.

“Today 26th June 2025, thunder struck, destroying some parts of my building and electronic gadgets. This is where the thunder struck this morning. It ripped off the roof of the poultry house in my compound and other places, it touched.”

Though visibly shaken by the devastating effects of the thunder, the Ohafia born lawmaker thanked God that no life was lost.

“The wire that brought light to my house was cut into pieces, and the place where the electricity meter was connected was completely destroyed. Thank God nobody was injured, and no life was lost. I give the father all the glory for protecting his loyal and faithful child.”

A sweep across the house showed debris of the shattered roof, holes on the walls and damaged floor, and pieces of wood and electric wire coatings.

Recall that the day was greeted with several bouts of rainfall with a thunder storm.
