The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will begin the sale of nomination forms for the 2027 general elections on Tuesday.

Abia PDP Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, disclosed this during a stakeholders meeting held at the Umuahia party secretariat, where he also briefed members on the election timetable.

Amah announced that the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, governorship and presidential elections would commence on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. “We are good to go. I can assure us that Abia PDP is ready for the 2027 national election,” he stated.

Amah revealed that three persons have already indicated interest in the governorship race. They include former Deputy Chief of Staff, Olugu Kalu Ugba, who has addressed the State Working Committee and consulted local government party chairmen. Another aspirant is John Okiyi Kalu, while the third, who is U.S.-based, has met with him in Abuja.

He added that several members have also shown interest in contesting for various National Assembly seats. Two persons have indicated interest in the Abia Central Senate seat and one for Abia North. “For the House of Representatives we have so many of them and I believe that in the next few days their names and other information associated with them will also be made public,” he said.

The party Chairman described the PDP’s recent legal battles as a “very torturous journey” through the Federal High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. “By the grace of God we are over. We have gone through these processes and we believe as a political party that we are good to go,” he said.

On membership and reconciliation, he noted that standing committees at the national and state levels are handling the process. He cited the return of several former members, including a local government chairman who had earlier left the party. “Yesterday I was at a Owerri where we saw a lot of persons who left the party and all of them are back,” he said.

Responding to questions about defectors to the APC and claims over the PDP structure, he maintained that the party remains intact. “The truth remains that the key for the 2027 elections magic is still with the PDP,” he said. “They cannot be in APC and make themselves busy bodies who will be speaking for PDP.”

He emphasized that the PDP has its structures, spokesperson and chairman, and will field candidates in all elections. “Maybe people will step down for us, but PDP is going to contest all the elections. The issue of stepping down for any person is not in our books,” he added.
