2027: PDP Will Win All Seats in Abia – JOK
A former Commissioner for information in Abia State and a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief John Okiyi Kalu, says the party was prepared to field candidates for all positions in the 2027 general elections and does not plan to enter any coalition, asserting that the party still remained the dominant force in Abia.
Speaking in an interview in Umuahia at the weekend meeting at the party office, Kalu said the meeting was convened to brief members on the post-litigation issue and after the national convention held in Abuja, boasting that nobody or party could win elections in Abia without PDP.
“You know, post-litigations and all the crises within the party, the stakeholders need to calm down and bring everybody together, brief them on what we have done so far and confirm to them that the People’s Democratic Party in Nigeria, with Nyesom Wike as the national leader, and the People’s Democratic Party in Abia State, with Ambassador Okezie Ikpeazu as the state leader, and Elder Abraham Amah, as the party chairman, will definitely field candidates for 2027 elections for all contested positions,” he said.
The positions include the Presidency, Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly
JOK, as he is popularly called, insisted that the PDP remains the dominant force in Abia politics. “Let me repeat this again. You cannot win elections in this state without PDP. What happened before happened because PDP members abandoned their party for whatever reason.”
He said the party is ready to reconcile with aggrieved members and offer them “the platform that delivers results that people can see, not a platform of no chance or answer.”
“We believe in our people in PDP. We consider them the major beneficiaries of everything we do as a political party because we say that power belongs to the people,” he added.
The former Commissioner also contrasted the PDP’s time in government with the present administration, claiming the state now receives at least ₦60 billion monthly but has yet to match PDP’s infrastructural record.
“When we were in government, we were able to deliver substantial results with N3 to N4 billion Naira in a month. As of today, it is still the first and only flyover that we did from the monthly N4 billion that still exists in the state. There is no other flyover,” he said.
He promised that a PDP government would construct new flyovers at Waterside, Aba; Isigate, Umuahia; and Abiriba. “We are the party that knows how to build, not the party that knows how to steal,” he stated.
He called on Governor Alex Otti to “tone down his violent rhetoric,” referencing alleged threats for people to “go and write their will.”
“Nobody wrote will throughout the time that PDP has existed and not even one Abian lost his/her life as a result of elections,” he said. “The People’s Democratic Party provided a peaceful environment. We did not threaten anybody.”
On zoning, Chief J.O.K. said the party already knows the governorship candidate will come from “either Abia North or from Central, the Ngwa side of Central.” He added: “We are the party of zoning both at the national level and at the state level. It is in our constitution.”
He firmly dismissed talks of a coalition ahead of 2027. “We are fielding candidates from the presidential ticket to the last. What coalition are you talking about? We don’t have any such thing,” he said.
“The National Working Committee has come out to say that we are fielding candidates against President Tinubu. We are PDP and we expect our people to vote for the PDP candidate.
Chief JOK concluded by urging party members to organize at all levels. “We will be winning elections in 2027,” he said.
