Abia State Government To Immortalize INEC Returning Officer

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has announced plans to immortalize the Abia State Returning Officer for the 2023 gubernatorial election, Prof. Nnenna Otti for not compromising her integrity.

Governor Otti announced this in Aba on Friday, October 31, 2025 at the Enyimba International Stadium during his speech at a grand reception in his honour, organized by Old Bende Progressive Union.

This follows an award of honour given to the professor for resisting the pressure to compromise the results of the gubernatorial election in the state in 2023.

Governor Otti said Prof Otti had set a new template for Nigeria by upholding values, despite the pressure and alleged monetary inducement to announce a result that did not reflect the wish of the people.

“I want to use this opportunity to congratulate Professor Nnennaya Nnannaya Otti, who was not here this evening. I was very emotional when her representative came to receive the award.”

“And I want to join the fathers of faith and our traditional rulers to congratulate her and thank her for the great job she did. Abia people are very grateful. Abia people have so many awards to give her. If I have the appropriate time, we will “immortalize” her.”

“She has set a new template for Nigeria. So anytime people are talking about integrity and credibility, they are looking in her way. She may not have collected the money, but she collected something greater than money, and I want that to be a challenge to all of us in our little corners. Let’s all do the right thing.”

Speaking on his developmental agenda for the state, Governor Otti assured Abians that more should be expected as, according to him, it is still “early morning”.

He pledged to commence work immediately on some roads in the Old Bende Division of Abia State as requested by the President of Old Bende Progressive Union, DIG Uda (rtd) during his welcome address at the event

“I have listened to the request of DIG Uda. And thank God it is written. And I have already forwarded that to the Honourable Commissioner for Works so that we will begin work on that.”

Governor Otti assured Abia to continue providing good governance, saying that good governance is more important than infrastructure.

“Infrastructure is very important. Very, very important. But you know what? There is something that is more important. That is governance, good governance.”
