I was privileged to join Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, as he addressed the people of Aba during the ‘Promise Kept Carnival’ held at Umuagbai Secondary School, Port Harcourt Road. The thanksgiving event was organized in celebration of the long-abandoned Port Harcourt Road, now reconstructed and completed under Governor Otti’s administration.

The Governor made a major announcement: 20 electric buses have been procured and will be rolled out within two months to kickstart a modern, eco-friendly transport system in the state. These electric buses—just like those seen abroad—will operate without petrol or diesel, supported by new bus terminals currently under construction.

Responding to opposition critics, Governor Otti reminded the people that while the previous government paid N9.8 billion for Port Harcourt Road in 2017 without results, his administration delivered the road in 2025 with N36.5 billion—actually a lesser dollar value (USD22 million) than the previous effort (USD29 million).

The Governor also demonstrated his appreciation for integrity, rewarding a tricycle (‘keke’) driver with N1.4 million for returning N2.4 million forgotten by a passenger—an act he said represents the honesty Abians are known for.

The event drew goodwill messages from Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa, and leaders of the Aba business community, who praised Governor Otti’s leadership and confirmed that with achievements like the Port Harcourt Road, his re-election campaign is already halfway won.

The carnival, described as a celebration of restoration and a new season for Abia, featured music, comedy, a match pass by schoolchildren, and massive turnout by dignitaries, business leaders, and members of the public.

Indeed, it was a moment of pride to stand with a Governor who leads with performance, not noise.
