SERAP SUES CBN OVER LG FUNDS

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has filed a law suit against the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN over the inability of the apex Bank to disclose the details of any direct payments from the Federation Account to the 774 local government councils in Nigeria, including the amounts sent to each council.

This way made public in a post on its official X handle on Sunday May 25, 2025.

Recall that the Supreme Court had on July 24, 2024 granted full autonomy to the 774 local government areas in Nigeria.

The federal government had also mandated the LGAs to open accounts with the apex Bank while urging the CBN to pay directly to the LGAs.
