The Abia Patriots (TAP), a Civil Rights group that comprises prominent elder statesmen in Abia State, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to comply with a recent Federal High Court ruling affirming Senator Esther Nenadi Usman as the legitimate leader of the Labour Party (LP).

In a statement signed by the group’s Secretary General Mazi Adindu Madumere,TAP welcome the judgment by Justice Peter Lifu, which aligns with an earlier Supreme Court ruling, and urged INEC to recognize the Usman-led caretaker committee as the party’s rightful leadership. The group emphasized that upholding the court decision would encourage the present administration in the state to refocus on the act of governance.

TAP commended Governor Alex Otti for not allowing the political crises within the Labour Party to slow down the pace of development in the state, and hailed him for maintaining his focus on the critical task of delivering impactful dividends of democracy to the people.

The Abia Patriots’ statement reads in part, “In line with our avowed desire to reduce political distraction in Abia while refocusing the concentration of government hundred percent on the critical conduct of governance, we urge INEC to respect the court’s decision and recognize the Senator Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee as the legitimate leadership of the Labour Party. This will surely quicken the current pace of governance and deliver more dividends of democracy to our people”
