THE ABIA PATRIOTS COMMENDS GOVERNOR OTTI ON ABIA’S LEAP TO 4TH POSITION IN SUSTAINABILITY REPORT
A Rights Group, The Abia Patriots (TAP) has congratulated the Governor of Abia State , Dr Alex Otti and the people of Abia State on the state’s remarkable leap from 18th to 4th position in the recent sustainability report by BudgIT.
The group in a statement described the achievement as a public affirmation of the governor’s effective economic policies and commitment to transforming Abia.
According to the statement signed by Mazi Adindu Madumere, Secretary General of TAP, the milestone reflects the governor’s efforts to revamp Abia’s economy and improve the quality of life for its citizens, saying the sustainability report assesses states’ performance in fiscal stability, transparency, and accountability, and Abia’s upward movement indicates significant progress in these areas.
Recall that the report highlighted Abia’s improved fiscal management, with a shift from recurrent expenditure to capital investment. In 2024, Abia spent ₦215.5 billion on capital projects, a significant increase from previous years. This investment is expected to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and boost internally generated revenue (IGR).
“Abia’s IGR grew from ₦16.7 billion in 2022 to ₦41.3 billion in 2024, indicating a positive trend,” said Madumere. “While the state’s dependence on federal allocations (FAAC) remains high at 87.37%, the direction of travel is encouraging.”
TAP commended Governor Otti and his team for their efforts and encouraged them to sustain these policies.
“This achievement is indeed a strong indicator of the governor’s vision and commitment to good governance,” said Madumere. “We urge the administration to continue implementing reforms that drive growth and development.”
“With continued effort in this direction Abia can become a model for sustainable development in Nigeria, and subsequently re-emerge as the Japan of Africa.
Let’s keep moving Abia forward!”
