A Civil Society Group, The Abia Patriots, TAP, has condemned in strong terms, the communique issued by a team of Abia former governors and political appointees between 1999 and 2023 to unseat governor Alex Otti in 2027.

The group in a statement on Saturday questioned the sudden unity of purpose among seemingly sworn enemies.

“The recent communique by former Abia political appointees (1999-2023) raises eyebrows. The big question begging for answer is, what is behind this sudden unity of sworn enemies? Is it genuine concern for governance or a plaited scheme to undermine Governor Otti?”

According to the statement signed by Mazi Adindu Madumere, the Secretary General of The Abia Patriots, it is worrisome to see apparent enemies unite to drag the governor to court when according to them, one person could have done it.

“Why the haste to settle long lived seemingly intractable political differences just for the purposes of taking Governor Otti to court when only one member of the coalition could have filled the case?”

“Why were members of the coalition silent when Governor Ikpeazu ran the affairs of government from Aba and Umuobiakwa? Why didnt they threaten court cases even when Governor Ikpeazu brazenly held scores of official functions in Aba and Umuobiakwa including hosting the then Vice President?”

“Instead of issuing threats why didn’t they just proceed to court?”

Why did they allow the whole world to see their efforts in rehabilitating some obviously hungry politicians who couldn’t maintain decorum and restraint but kept shovelling rice into their mouths noisily during the public presentation of their communique?”

“We rebuke this group’s tactics, mobilising resources to cause tension, slow governance, and distract from progress.”
